This photo was on a walk the other weekend from Praa Sands to Porthleven. The sky was magnificent. I kept stopping every few feet to take photos of the clouds until M. threatened to throw the camera off the cliff if I didn’t keep up. Fortunately for him (and the camera), it started to rain – else I might still be out there ambling along the coast, staring up at the sky. It’s been terribly blustery these past few days, but also sunny in patches. I’ve been as happy as a clam sitting in the window with a good book, listening the wind howl outside but feeling the warm sun on my shoulders. I recently finished this book and I loved it so much I might read it again straight away. I do have a weakness for novels involving castles. What have you been reading/ noticing/ loving/ doing?
I love I Capture the Castle. Just wrote a review of it for Library Journal magazine. Right now I’m starting Barry Lopez’ beautiful Arctic Dreams for the second time around, and I’m looking forward to reading Arcadia.
Both look like excellent books! I’ve added them to my ever expanding reading list
Mmmmm, that’s one of my favourite books. I just finished reading Weeds by Richard Mabey, highly recommended if you haven’t already read it. He’s like a British Michael Pollan. Been steadily working my way through Yotam Ottolenghi’s salads from his guardian column (warm roast chicken and bread salad, plus pink grapefruit and sumac salad & mango noodle salad have been highlights). Watching summer thunder storms roll in from the porch has been keeping me mesmerized as much as your English skies seem to be doing!
Love Richard Mabey! I haven’t read that one yet and I am now very excited to
I have his Flora Britannica which is my ever permanent coffee table book – I love just opening up to any random old page and reading away. Thanks for the reminder about Yotam’s column – he has such a vibrant way of combining flavours – and I love thinking of those thunderstorms rolling in
They are one of my favourite aspects of summertime!
This book sounds nice. I’m currently reading Hillary Mantel’s sequel to Wolf Hall, “Bring up the Bodies”. A fantastic tale of Cromwell’s influence over Henry VIII – very enjoyable! I’ve also been watching the hazel catkins open, using up my last butternut squash, and wishing for some sunny blue skies.
So funny! I’m now reading Wolf Hall
I love it – she is such a phenomenal story teller
Sounds like you’ve been spending your time very well!
i’ve been noticing the increasing light, using my preserved lemons in everything, baking a pan of stuffed shells with almond and parsley pesto, and reading frances and bernard, which you would love. xo
I’m glad you mentioned the light – it’s nearly 5:30 here and still quite bright:) Such a lovely thing to notice. I still have to make some preserved lemons – and do you know I’ve never made stuffed shells! So many ideas I’m getting from everyone
Frances and Bernard is now on my reading list too! It’s growing longer by the second!!
I also love “I Capture The Castle”. Have you seen the film?
There’s a film!!?! How exciting
Sounds like a good Friday night activity!
Beautiful sky!
My husband also gets very grumpy when we go for a walk and I stop every two seconds to take photos. I think they should give us a half hour head-start and then start walking and catch up.
I have just started a book called The Wild Places. I’ll let you know if it’s any good. xx
I love when a book leaves me feeling the way you’ve described above. Reading/ noticing/ loving/ doing? We just spent a few days about an hour north of San Francisco. The landscape is so green and beautiful up there right now and we saw quite an array of beautiful birds. It was nice to hear them sing.
